A cash memo is a basic record of a cash sale and is not automatically a GST tax invoice. A GST invoice includes the supplier’s GSTIN, invoice number and date, item details, HSN code, taxable value, and applicable GST rate and amount, along with customer and place-of-supply details where required.

Is this bill format valid for GST filing and ITC claims?

This format can be used as a GST tax invoice after the required details are added. For a B2B invoice or ITC claim, replace “Cash” in the Billing Details section with the buyer’s legal name and add the buyer’s address and GSTIN. The item and tax sections must clearly show the applicable HSN codes, taxable values and GST amounts. If e-invoicing applies, the invoice must also display a valid IRN and signed QR code. 

The supplier must report the invoice through GSTR-1 or IFF for it to appear in the buyer’s GSTR-2B. The template supports invoice record-keeping but is not itself filed as a GST return.
